Drilling in CONCRETE

You can find everything you need to know about drilling in concrete below.

Tips

Difference Between SDS-Max and SDS-Plus
What’s the advantage of an SDS connection compared to a traditional concrete drill with a cylindrical shank? SDS Plus and SDS Max connections feature grooves in the shank, which provide extra locking in the machine. This allows for greater force to be applied during drilling.

Note: SDS-MAX does not fit in a standard drill, but SDS-Plus does.

Hammer drills

A hammer drill is typically used for drilling into various types of stone and concrete. It features a drill head with four symmetrical cutting edges, enabling precise, comfortable, and low-vibration drilling.

A hammer drill is suitable for drilling in the following materials:

  • Concrete

  • Sand-lime brick

  • Masonry

Universal drills

For drilling into hard materials like concrete and granite, a stone drill, concrete drill, or TCT drill is commonly used. The TCT drill has a TCT tip and is also suitable for metal, tiles, wood, and plastic. The universal drill bit is ideal when encountering various material types in a single hole or when frequently switching between different materials. This drill bit can be used with any drill, with or without a hammer function.

A versatile bit for various tasks. Suitable for:

  • Concrete

  • Metal

  • Wood

  • Tiles

  • Plastic

Tile drills

Drilling into concrete requires specific instructions. Often, you need to drill through a tile layer before reaching the concrete. For this, it’s advisable to use a tile drill with a carbide tip to carefully drill through the tile without using the hammer function. Once through the tile, switch to a concrete drill bit. This allows you to drill through the concrete with full power from the rotary hammer.

A tile drill is suitable for

  • Tiles

  • Ceramic tiles

Concrete drills

A concrete drill has a hard tip made of tungsten carbide, making it ideal for drilling into hard ceramic tiles as well as concrete walls without aggregates. Concrete drills feature a carbide tip and can be used with both a cordless hammer drill and a standard hammer drill.

Suitable for:

  • (Reinforced) concrete

  • Hard ceramic tiles
